Maite Alonso - Shakti Soul

What can people expect ?

Shakti Flowing Yoga, is a movement based yoga, based on Shakti Dance, the Yoga of Dance  and having its roots in Kundalini Yoga. The session consist on a seamless flow of gentle, yet powerful!, floor stretches coordinated with the breath to a background of mantric music. It may include standing up movements leading into free dance, and ending in a final relaxation. It is about HOW we do it more than WHAT we do.

In each session, we embark into a body-mind-heart exploration by slowing the flow of movement down and coordinating it with our own rhythm of breath. Letting go of judging and pushing the body to perform, bringing kindness, curiosity and acceptance into our unique experience, we drop into a state of presence with the body as it is. In that way we reconnect with our bodies as our source of life force, of joy and wisdom. We regain our feeling at home in our body, as a temple, as well as a sacred living creature of Earth.

I love sharing these nurturing, healing and life-giving spaces, experience a deep connection with the conscious life force that permeates everything, Shakti.

I was born in Spain. With an innate passion for music and dance, I  also started practising Yoga on my own, and since my teens I have practiced different styles including Sivananda (in which I got the Teacher Training Certificate in 1991 in India), Hatha, Iyengar, Scaravelli and some Ashtanga.

Buddhist meditation has also been a major influence since 1990, especially Zen and Insight Meditation, which was a major factor in my decision to leave a nursing profession in Spain and explore life in Buddhist and spiritual centres in UK, Europe and California.
My interest in health and alternative therapies took me to London in 1995 to undergo a post graduate diploma in Movement and Drama therapy (Sesame Method), and some years later the ITEC diplomas in Indian Head Massage, Reflexology and Reiki.

In 2009 I finished the training in Shakti Dance and the Yoga of Dance, in the UK, with Sara Avtar Olivier.  I found that Shakti Dance integrated my great passions for Yoga, Dance, Meditation, Music and Healing together into one practice-where I feel most at home.

I also completed the Kundalini Yoga Training Course in December 2012 in Devon with Amrit Nam Sarovar School.
