Satya- truthfulness in our lives, not just on our yoga mats

Yamas & Niyamas

You may have noticed a subtle background flavour to our yoga sessions this summery term.. and these blogskis will be infused also with the scent of the ancient wisdom of wellness concepts.
This week it's got a hue of Satya, Truthfulness, honesty.. The second of the Yamas or personal observances from the family tree of Ashtanga philosophy. And far be it for me to preach, we are all victim to a certain amount of people pleasing and fitting in (..to survive?) the reptilian brain is a powerful force to contend with and our ability to stay focused on the present, and stay honest and truthful with ourselves first (I'm remembering the "put your own oxygen mask on first" thing you get in the aeroplane blurb) is a way to become more honest and truthful with the world.
So here are a few considerations that might stir the cauldron of thought and possibility within you...
3 Ideas
"Real" asks us to live from a place where there is nothing to defend and nothing to manage. It is a contract with the moment that is not superimposed or pre-packaged"
D.Adele
"When an asana comes about spontaneously as a natural expression of one's interior state, it will be perfect".
A good practice when we cannot withdraw easily from the mind is to "make a deal" with the mind; we can say to it "you're allowed to be upset & have a reaction, but only when you know the facts and not before".
2 Quotes
"Agency and attitude is more important than alignment and adjustments".
Norman Blair, Yoga mentor, teacher & trainer.
The 4 laws of behaviour change are a simple set of rules we can use to build better habits, they are:
1 Make it obvious
2 Make it attractive
3 Make it easy
4 Make it satisfying
James Clear. Author, thinker, philosopher.

From whom or what do you seek approval? Does this affect whether you act from your "niceness" or your "realness" ?
